"Eternity is in these moments.”
(from Act 1, Scene 2)
Act 1, Scene 5 Wollstonecraft: I am invisible. I am a monster to be shunned. Godwin: Which is it? You can’t be both. Wollstonecraft: I can’t be an invisible monster? They are the worst kind. Act 1, Scene 5: Godwin: “I did not ask you to marry me.” Amelia: “You most certainly did.” Godwin: “I proposed to you, yes, but that was all.” Amelia: “What is a proposal if not an invitation to marry?” Godwin: “Well, it is a sort of hypothetical, isn’t it?” Hays: “Ha!” Act 2, Scene 1 Alderson: “Whatever pain or suffering you are experiencing, I want to always be your friend.” Wollstonecraft: “I don’t know that it’s so much “pain and suffering” I am feeling as it is embarrassments and humiliations, which are, I suppose, injuries to my sensibilities, my mind, my soul. Can one DIE from humiliations?” Act 2, Scene 1 Wollstonecraft: How was your trip? Godwin: “Hated it. Everything I want is here.” (Godwin goes in for an embrace, but Mary pushes him away.) Wollstonecraft: “I’m not feeling well tonight. I’d like to be alone.” Act 2, Scene 2 Godwin: “I have a world. You need a world. I want you to have mine.” Wollstonecraft: (smiling) “You will give me your world. Where will you live?” |
